Chief Appeals For Towing Car On Kumasi & Accra Highway

Nana Ofori Amanfo Diatuo, Kyidomhene of Asankare Traditional Area, has appealed to the National Road Safety Commission to provide a towing vehicle on the Nkawkaw/ Konongo section of the Accra/Kumasi highway to reduce accidents. He said the services of a towing car was urgently needed on that section of the road as most accidents were caused by broken down heavy duty vehicles. The chief said it was common to see heavy trucks abandoned by the roadside for days whenever they develop faults, a situation he said was inimical to road safety. Nana Ofori Amanfo Diatuo, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, suggested that at least one towing car be provided and given to the Kwahu West, Asante Akim South and Asante Akim North District assemblies. He said the move would not only forestall accidents but would also fetch revenue for the assemblies and urged government to take a critical look at his appeal. Nana Ofori Amanfo Diatuo recounted instances where vehicles involved in accidents blocked the highway, thereby halting traffic for hours due to the unavailability of a towing car to clear the road. He appealed to the Police Administration to restore a police checkpoint at Kantanso that was removed four years ago.
