Sunyani MCE Dead

The immediate past Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Oppong Ababio, is dead. He was 50 years old and died at about 09:00pm last Saturday while he was being rushed to the hospital after complaining of stomach upset and chesty pains.

The late Oppong Ababio, who was the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East constituency in last year's elections, was said to have finished taking his supper and was watching television when he suddenly started complaining of pains in the stomach and later his chest.

He later died on his way to the hospital.

A source at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly told the Daily Statesman that the late Oppong Ababio was at the Assembly last week Monday January 16, 2017 to officially hand over as the MCE to the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, as directed by Hajia Alima Mahama, the Minister designate for Local Government.

The late Oppong Ababio was last seen in town last Saturday afternoon looking healthy without showing any sign of ill health.

Hundreds of people gathered at the forecourt of the Abesimhene's Place at Abesim, near Sunyani, to sympathize with the family. The large crowd of mourners included NDC followers.

A delegation from the Sunyani East Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, led by the Member of Parliament, Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, was also there to commiserate with the bereaved family.
