Jacobu JHS gets GH170,000 classroom block

A GH170,000 school block built for the Jacobu Methodist Junior High School (JHS) in the Amansie Central District by Mr and Prof (Mrs) Mensah Bonsu, Advertising Consultants, has been inaugurated. It has six classrooms, an office, store, staff room, library, and a computer laboratory. Performing the inaugural ceremony, the Right Reverend Stephen Bosumtwi-Ayensu, Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, appealed to the district assemblies to ban the use of classrooms as place of worship by religious organizations. He said this had become necessary to end the damage to school furniture, buildings, door locks and other facilities resulting from the recklessness of those worshippers. He said given the surge of school enrolment and the attendant pressure on the limited facilities it is only prudent that measures are taken to preserve what is already there. Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said parents should take advantage of the structure by sending their children to school. This is the only way the intended benefits to the community from the huge investment could be realized. He spoke of the government's commitment to public-private partnership in education development and praised the couple for the gesture. Mr. Bennet Robert Forkuoh, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly would provide dual desks and computers for the school. Mr Mensah-Bonsu said the new building was in response to an appeal by the school authorities. It is to replace the old and dilapidated block and urged the community to take good care of the structure. Prof (Mrs) Mensah-Bonsu stressed the importance of girl-child education and advised parents to encourage their young girls to go to school. Nana Fosu Kwadwabiri, Chief of Jacobu, said the community is grateful to the couple, who for the past nine years have been supporting the education of brilliant but needy children in the town.
