Teenager jailed for stealing

A circuit court in Kumasi, on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old unemployed to two years imprisonment for stealing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and Ecobank Visa card belonging to a teacher. Vincent Afriyie, the convict, pleaded guilty to the charge. Police Chief Inspector Mary Nana Adwoa Affanyi told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Adjei Frimpong that Afriyie resided at Adum whilst the teacher, Miss Mercy Bio, lived at Asokore Mampong, all suburbs in Kumasi. Prosecution said that on October 21 the complainant returned from work and realised that her room was ransacked and the two cards stolen. Chief Insp Affanyi said Miss Bio received a telephone call from the Adum branch of the Prudential Bank that Afriyie was apprehended by security personnel for attempting to withdraw money with her ATM card. Prosecution said the complainant rushed to the bank and the security personnel handed Afriyie over to the Police in Kumasi Central.
