The Ghana Standards Board (GSB) is leading the implementation of the standard component of the Trade Sector Support Programme (TSSP) so as to help in the delivery of quality products and services for the consuming public. The programme is designed to systematically implement the Ghana Trade Policy and deliver rapid and strategic expansion of Ghana�s productive base. The standard component consists of four key projects, namely institutional upgrading, sanitary and phyto-sanitary requirements and technical barriers to trade, enforcement of standards on domestic market and productivity improvement. Addressing the 40th World Standard Day Celebration in Accra, the Executive Director of Ghana Standards Board, Adu Gyamfi Darkwa, noted that the GSB has been working hard to raise awareness and to promote the importance of standards and conformity assessment as tools to improve market access and help in the transfer of technology so as to encourage good business practices and sustainable development. To ensure greater efficiency and productively, Mr Darkwa noted that GSB is currently spearheading and coordinating the process of regional and international harmonization of standards while assisting regulators in the development of technical regulations. He underscored that the connection between standardization activities and trade and development cannot be overemphasized, saying standardization activities relate to all aspects of life, including concerns for climate change. To this end, the international standardization community is raiding awareness and promoting the importance of standards in sustaining development worldwide.
