Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) Company celebrated October 9, this year, as the official opening of its cocoa processing plant here in Kumasi, where the President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, cut the ribbon to officially open the plant for business. In attendance at the ceremony were some ministers of state and notable among them were the Food and Agriculture Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hanna Tetteh. Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff, Henry Mantey Newman, the Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board, Tony Fofie, the Executive vice President, Commercial and Production of ADM, John Rice, and other big shots of the company. The former Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board, Isaac Osei, currently the Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency in Kumasi, and the MP for Asokwa, whose constituency is where the new cocoa plant is. Maxwell Kofi Dwumah, aka Kofi Ghana, were also present. The overlord of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was represented by the Akyempemhene of Kumasi, Nana Adusei-Poku. The President, Prof. Mills, described the location of the plant in Kumasi as a welcome one, and gave credit to his predecessor government of NPP, saying the former government needs to be acknowledged for initiating the project. The President said, �I am pleased that ADM has chosen Kumasi to build its new cocoa processing plant.� He continued that the sitting of the plant in the Kumasi was an excellent example of how the government could create a business environment that balances the growth of local industries with the operations of international business and give support to the growing economy by investing in the people of this country and creating jobs and revenue.
