Nii Agbo Commey Gbaku, the President of the Ghana National Psychic and Traditional Healers Association (GNPTHA) has lauded the giant strides being made by producers of herbal medicines in Ghana.
He said herbal medicine had become an integral component of the healthcare delivery system in the country and even in the sub-region.
Nii Commey Gbaku who made the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said unlike some years back when herbal medicine had no recognition; it had become useful and helpful in recent days.
He said producers with the help of the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine and other relevant institutions had over the years improved on their production.
“This has really given impetus to herbal medicine’s inclusion in the quality healthcare delivery system and this for me satisfies the intention of the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s vision of reducing the huge money used to import orthodox medicines into Ghana thereby establishing the GNPTHA,” Nii Commey Gbaku said.
He charged practitioners to strive more by exploring other innovative and scientific methods of further improving their production.
The President regretted activities of some quacks denting the image of the hard working practitioners and therefore called on the Food and Drugs Authority to pay unannounced visits to their premises regularly to take samples of their products to ensure that they produced efficacious herbal medicines at all times.
