Kweku Baako Jnr. has hailed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for stating his stance on violence perpetuated by party fanatics in the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in his State of the Nation Address (SONA), condemned in no uncertain terms acts of misconduct by supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party as well as other political parties.

According to him, he will not countenance such acts and so has issued directives to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu not to spare the perpetrators.

"Wrongdoing has no political colour. And I do not subscribe to the lawlessness of political party supporters simply because their party has been elected into office," he stated emphatically in the maiden edition of his SONA.

Commenting on the President's Nation Address, Kweku Baako called on the Government of Ghana to deal with the brutality of a Senior Police Officer at the Flagstaff House.

He condemned the assault on the Police Officer and urged the appropriate State authorities to bring the culprits to book and ensure that justice is served on the case.

It could be recalled that a video footage showing some people believed to be members of the Invincible Forces, an pro-NPP gang, beating up a Senior Police Officer and forcibly plucking him out of Police vehicle at the Flagstaff House went viral.

Reasons for the assault were however unknown but in the latest development, a military officer is reportedly detained at Burma camp for allegedly leaking the CCTV footage of the incident.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Mr. Baako noted that per his own investigations, the video was leaked by the officer in a revenge attempt over some misconduct on the side of the victim.

He explained that the victim had similarly assaulted the detainee under the erstwhile John Mahama regime who waited for the NPP government to be ushered into power to retaliate the actions by the victim.

He however decried the revenge on the victim and asked the government to allow the country's laws to take course.

“That assault, especially at the seat of government, cannot be countenanced. It should be condemned outright. And not just condemnation, Kwami, action should be taken. I heard the Police Officer lodged a complaint with the IGP; the victim. So, one would need to know what has been the status. I don’t see how anybody should be protected.”

“That is criminal and that should be investigated. And the culprit, Kwami, whether it was a revenge or not a revenge; I think he also committed an offence against the law. If it’s about his earlier beating that he suffered, he’s still within his right to lodge a complaint and also let the laws apply rather than embark on such a reckless, lawless conduct.”

Kweku Baako commended President Akufo-Addo for speaking against any act of violence by any Ghanaian irrespective of his or her party affiliation.

“To be honest with you, anybody in that category whether you’re an NPP or not NPP member; I think you should be dealt with according to law. It’s in our interest, national interest," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
