Akufo-Addo Has Not Appointed New GOIL CEO

The Office of the President has described as "unfortunate and completely needless" accusations by the chairman of the GOIL Board of Directors, Professor William Asumaning, that procedures were breached in a purported appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.

President Akufo-Addo's office in a statement on Tuesday denied the appointment of a new GOIL CEO, adding that any such appointment will be done in accordance with laid down procedure.

A statement signed and issued by the Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, chided Professor Asumaning for reacting publicly to conjecture from a media publication.

"The statement by the Board Chairman references a Ghanaweb publication of 24th February, 2017 titled "Nana Addo Picks New Heads for Forestry Commission, Ghana Health Service and GOIL. It is on the basis of this story that Prof. William Asumaning put out his statement," the statement said.

"One would have hoped, in the interest of best practices, that the issuance of such a statement by Prof. Asumaning would have been hinged on concrete evidence, in the form of appointment letters, and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication. The statement by the Board Chair was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not appointed a new CEO of GOIL, and when he decides to do so, it will be done with laid down procedures".

It would be recalled that a statement signed and issued by Prof Asumaning, the Board Chairman of GOIL at the weekend said the process through which a CEO can be appointed or removed had not been observed with the purported appointment of a new CEO.

Prof Asumaning said GOIL was a public listed company on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) with its own Regulations.

Below is the GOIL Board Chairman's statement:

STATEMENT BY GOIL BOARD ON APPOINTMENT OF A NEW CEO

Information available to the GOIL Board per a publication on Ghanaweb on Friday, the 24th of February, 2017 captioned "Nana Addo Picks New Heads for Forestry Commission, Ghana Health Service and GOIL" indicates that the new CEO appointed for GOIL is one Mr. Osei Prempeh.

The Board would like to draw the attention of the SHAREHOLDERS and the public to the fact that GOIL is a public listed company on the Ghana Stock Exchange with its own Regulations. The Regulations state the process through which a CEO can be appointed or removed.

The Board would like to state emphatically that it is not aware of the observance of such processes as stated in the regulations leading to the appointment of any CEO and that we as a Board have not made any such appointment.

SIGNED.
Prof. William Asumaning (Board Chairman)
