Achimota: Man Commits Suicide

A man in his 30s has committed suicide near the Achimota Overpass in Accra.

The body of the deceased, according to Accra-based Adom FM was seen on Thursday morning hanging on a rope tied to a tree.

“We were just in the house when we heard that a man had committed suicide by hanging, and, so, we rushed to the scene only to find the man hanging with a rope tied to his neck,” a resident said.

The police are investigating the matter.

This latest suicide comes just 24 hours after a Level 400 student of the University of Ghana, Jennifer Nyarko, jumped to her death from the balcony of the Akuafo Hall after having been in seclusion for days and avoiding lectures.

The Wednesday incident sent the whole campus into shock.

It is not clear why the deceased jumped to her death but some students speculated that she may have been suffering from high fever.

Ms Nyarko was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Legon hospital.

Her suicide came almost two weeks after an 18-year-old petrochemical student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Adwoa Anyimadu-Antwi, who was the daughter of Asante Akim Central MP, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, also killed herself.

She left a suicide note apologising to her parents for not living up to expectation.
