Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of youth and Sports, has reiterated his desire for youth employment in the country.
He said this when Nesrin Bayazit, Turkey Ambassador to Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Youth and Sports Minister to ratify a sports development agreement signed between both countries in March last year.
Mr. Asiamah in an interview with GNA Sports, stressed on the need for youth development and empowerment, as one key area, he would be keen on.
“Youth empowerment is key, in a nations growth and there is the need for the youth have a common body to fight for a better future.
“We need to provide sports infrastructures and also develop our youth centers. So that all manner of youth programs could be formulated to help our future leaders.
“Unskilled youth is a key challenge confronting the nation and it’s an area the ministry is bent on tackling”.
Mr. Asiamah, who once served as the chairman of the parliamentary select committee on youth, sports and culture noted that the partnership between Ghana and Turkey would go a long way to help Ghana develop its youth.
“The partnership is a step in the right direction, it’s a program worth welcoming, which would help youth development especially with the multi-purpose center of excellence.
“The progress and sustainability of the youth programs could also be tracked with a common youth body” he added.
According to the Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua constituency, the youth empowerment would encompass ICT development, creative skills training and job skills, coupled with a youth authority would ensure a common developmental goal for the youth.
It would be recalled that Mr. Asiamah met with the executives of some key identifiable youth groups in the Country to discuss issues and challenges within their respective circles and develop a possible roadmap to addressing them.
