Drivers Must Be Held Responsible For Road Carnage- Kwabena Sarpong

Road accidents in Ghana is currently shooting up despite the many safety campaign messages advertised in the media.

The trend is worrisome considering the number of lives claimed in road accidents and it is on this note that a member of the New Patriotic Party has called on drivers to exercise patient when plying tarred roads.

Wofa Kwabena Sarpong who is a leading member of the NPP stated on Atv’s current affairs show that he always get lost whenever he thinks about lives lost through road accidents.

He explained that statistics on road accidents recorded in rural areas where asphalt roads are hard to come by, show there are fewer road carnage compared to the urban areas where good roads abounds.

“Isn't it surprising that all the accident occur on the urban roads? In the villages where there are bad roads, the drivers don't normally get involved in serious accidents that can claim human lives.”

“Why should this be the case?” he rhetorically quizzed.

He called Ghanians to emulate women in American who stood up and held drivers accountable for their actions on the road.

“In the USA they used to have similar cases but women stood up against the tragic incident and formed an association that caught the attention of government and rules were set to regulate the actions of drivers on the road”, he said.
