Fear Grips Fetteh Kakraba Residents Over Attack On Chief

The inhabitants of Gomoa Kakraba, near Awutu Beraku in the Central Region, are living in fear following the attack on their chief by armed men.

Nana Essel Amoakwandoh III, the Chief of Fetteh Kakraba, who made this known to the press, appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the National Security to, as matter of urgency, intervene to protect life and property.

Narrating the incident, Nana Amokwandoh said at about 1230 hours on Thursday, March 9, eight armed men, wearing masks, entered his house at Fetteh Kakraba and asked where he was so they could deal with him.

The chief said the armed men arrived in the house on four motor bikes and started giving warning shots, saying; “we want to kill him if he is a man he should come out from his room to face us and he will see the consequences”.

He said they shot several times at his V8 Lexus Car and other vehicles in the house and destroyed plastic chairs and doors in a desperate attempt to enter his hall to shoot him.

Nana Amokwandoh said the inhabitants were living in fear as there had been persistent attacks on him adding that the police and security agencies were doing little to ward off such attacks.

He said the armed men also unleashed similar attacks on Nana Yaw Kodonum, Omankrado of the town, and destroyed chairs and glass windows.

The chief linked the attack to a chieftaincy and land dispute lingering in the area over the past years.
He said about two years ago, one of the sub-chiefs, Nana Okyere Panttu, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen who used similar motorbikes in the attack.

The chief said the alleged suspects were arrested but were later granted bail.

He apealed to the IGP and National Security to endeavour to give him and the inhabitants the maximum protection to stop the continuous armed attacks.

Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) S.S. Amfo, the Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, has said the matter had reported to the police and investigations were ongoing to unravel the source of the attack.
