The Ghana Education Service [GES] says it employees in the Banda Ahenkro district of the Brong Ahafo region must be saved from harm following xenophobic attacks in the district by indigenes.

“Our teachers must be wise enough to protect themselves” - acting Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Rev Jonathan Bettey said

At least 40 basic schools in the Banda Ahenkro district have been closed down following fears of attacks on teachers in the area.

A mysterious group in the area has threatened to brutally evict all government workers who are not natives in the town.

In a threatening note issued in the town, the group calling itself concern members of Banda Ahenkro served notice of attack on people the group considered as ‘strangers’ who came to take over all works in town.

Speaking on the issues on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Rev Jonathan Bettey noted that “The life of our teachers is dear to us.

They are property of the state but the children of the school belong to the community. We closed down the schools to protect our teachers”

“For now we don’t know when the teachers will go back to school” he added
