The Menace Of Galamsey; Images Of Adaso River In Obuasi

The issue of galamsey (artisanal gold mining) has become an albatross around the neck of the country.

In Ghana, the local people and foreigners especially the Chinese engage in this type of mining which is considered illegal.

Apart from the danger of death especially when the tunnels collapse, galamsey activities are also destroying most water bodies in the country.

The laws of Ghana are against mining operations that are not backed by the requisite licenses from the appropriate authorities; but how are these laws being implemented?

Odaso river, in the Ashanti Region, feeds the people of Ejisu and Oboase. However galamsey operations have polluted the river making it impossible for indigenes to use.
