NDC Must Reconnect With Base – Boakye Djan

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osahene Major Boakye Gyan (rtd), believes the party’s reconnection with its cadre base is the solution that will bring back the party from opposition.

He said the NDC is the only party that has outlined its social democratic ideologies in its constitution, yet it is not being implemented to the letter.

“Check from anywhere in the world; the social democrats represent the lower majority of our people through taking care of what we call the popular welfare for them. This we have failed to do, not that we don’t know them, but it didn’t happen and we need to reconnect with the lower majority,” he told Moro Awudu on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Friday, March 24.

The advice comes after recent public criticisms by some NDC stalwarts of the conduct of some members of the John Mahama administration which, they believe, thwarted the party’s electoral fortunes in 2016.

This is happening even before the Kwesi Botchwey committee, tasked with unravelling the causes of the party’s electoral defeat, comes up with any findings.

Meanwhile political scientist Dr David Percy, who spoke on the same programme, has advised the NDC to reconnect with its ideological base as a means of reorganising itself back into power.

“Speak to any of the people from the NDC and ask them to tell you what the NDC stands for. Ask them that simple question and see how they will be struggling. All the problems they speak about spring from these roots,” he noted.

Dr Percy believes leading figures in the Mahama administration were disarming “their army favouring the enemy and if they can find answers to that they can deal with all the other problems”.
