Focus On The Needful

Time and time wait for no man, they say. Time is the only neutral constant that can be used by both constructive and destructive people. Time is of essence in every human endeavour. Since time is ever flowing and cannot to be amended in any way by any man, man’s best chance is to take advantage of it.

The President and his team so far assembled have a four-year mandate to execute their mountainous promises with a very controversial constitution. His Excellency appreciating the problematic nature of this Constitution albeit the longest served since our being promised to overhaul it.

We at TNF have not as yet seen any sense of urgency with which the President is approaching the question of this needful review of the Constitution 1992. We have rather seen the President seriously focus on building an edifice for a sectional religious affair in a nation that professes to be secular and thus indifferent in the affairs of religion.

We have seen the President set up a Board to oversee the construction of the said cathedral even after he had received service of a court action seeking an interpretation that could affect his action regarding same.

We have seen the President engage with speed the setting up of a Board to oversee the travel of muslims who intend to embark on a journey to Mecca in exercise of their faith. That too has been questioned and the determination of the case on religious relationships vis-à-vis the State and her responsibilities would be telling indeed.

What we find it quite intriguing at TNF is why the President and his team are not as urgent in focus with the promises of “FREE SHS” for ALL not a select; “ONE DISTRICT, ONE FACTORY” without suggesting that the private sector should take it up; “ONE MILLION DOLLARS PER CONSTITUENCY” etc.

The President and his team are at liberty to do what pleases them but they must remember their mandate. A misunderstanding or misrepresentation of that mandate is not an option for them. Speed is critical, hurry even better but FOCUSING RIGHT WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY is imperative!
