The former Ghana FA boss wants measures to be put in place to prevent the down turn of the local topflight.

Former Ghana Football Association president Lepowura Alhaji MND Jawula is unhappy with the current state of the domestic league.

From lack of headline sponsor, poor infrastructure, bad quality of play, perennial player exodus, litigations and frequently disrupted calendar, the topflight has become a major topic of discussion.

The former GFA chief is just one of many to criticize the competition only that he goes on to suggest some solutions.

“Our league is weak; we must admit it," Jawula told Starr FM.

“What we should do is to get sponsorship for the league and make sure our players stay much longer in the league so that the league will be strong.

“In those days when Abedi [Ayew] Pele and others were playing in Ghana, you use them and you will have no fear but now, that is not the case.

“They leave for obscure countries to seek greener pastures [once they begin to get attention] and it’s not good for us."

The Premier League has been without a lead sponsor following the withdrawal of First Capital Plus Bank (now Capital Bank) over “restructuring” reasons in 2015.

Despite the many challenges, the topflight has been in full gear this campaign, with Aduana Stars at the top of the table after matchday eight.
