Central Region Records High Cases Of Defilement

Defilement cases in the Central Region increased from 191 in 2015 to 273 in 2016, according to a report by the Domestic Violence And Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Central Regional Police Commander DCOP David Ampah - Bennin has assured the region as well as the general public that, the security agencies in the region has played a lead role to be on top of their job and will work hard in the year to ensure that a peaceful atmosphere is created in the region for every person whether indigene or a visitor to go about their legitimate businesses without and fear.

He said, the relative peace that the people are enjoying now is as a result of efforts and also the collaboration with the police and other stakeholders that yielded the desire peace which is being enjoyed by all in the region.

DCOP Ampah - Bennin added that "I wish to appeal to you for your continued co-operation in the days ahead in the fight against robbery, burglary and other heinous crimes in the region and beyond."

The Police Commander said this over the weekend in Cape Coast in the central region, on an occasion of the 2016 West African Security Association (WASSA).

He also commended the police administration on the achievement chalked during the year under review and further took the opportunity to warn them not to indulge in any act of indiscipline.

According to him, in the year under review, two personnel were dismissed, six were reduced in rank, five were reprimanded and six others were given various disciplinary punishment.

On the Crime Statistics in the region, DCOP Ampah - Bennin stated that the year under review also saw eighteen thousand six hundred and seventy nine (18,679) cases reported as against 18,676 cases in the previous year.

He noted that murder cases during the same year were reduced to 39 as against 49, robbery cases reduced from 156 to 79, rape cases also increased from 38 to 56, narcotics dropped from 71 to 38 among other vices.

DCOP, appealed to all stakeholders to assist the police with credible information to fight crime.
