Drivers asked to abide by driving regulations

Drivers in the country, especially those operating commercial vehicles, have been asked to abide by driving and traffic regulations to prevent motor accidents. Mr Alando A. Sidik, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), who made the call, said the spate of lorry accidents has cast a dint on the image of the driving profession. The General Secretary of GPRTU, who was speaking to GNA in an interview in Accra on Friday, called on drivers to redeem their dignity by refraining from alcoholism, over speeding, unnecessary overtaking and to respect traffic and driving rules to make the roads safe. Mr Sidik also cautioned drivers to exhibit reflective triangles when their vehicles break down on the road and avoid driving for long period since these also caused motor accidents. He urged the Police to regularly monitor the activities of drivers to ensure that they obeyed traffic and driving regulations.
