Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Community Trust Fund Commissions New Projects

AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem Community Trust Fund has commissioned new projects for people in its host communities in Adieyie and Badukrom, all in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

The projects, including a new Junior high school classroom block and Aqua-privy Toilet Facility, were commissioned by the Chairman of the Iduapriem Trust Fund Board, Professor Newton Amegbey. The New Junior high school block equipped with an ICT library and furniture at Adieyie and the Aqua privy at Badukrom were established at a cost of a little above ¢1 million.

Board Chairman of the Community Trust Fund, Professor Amegbey in a speech read on his behalf at the commissioning highlighted that education remains paramount world over and called on parents to ensure that their wards are enrolled in school for continuous education.

According to him, the JHS at Adieyie will fill in the gap as Iduapriem mine complements the efforts of government in education. He emphasized the need for community members and their leaders to work towards the sustainability of the facilities.

Managing Director of AngloGold Iduapriem Mine, Jasper Musadaidzwa in his address said the company is committed to leaving sustainable life improvement legacies in its host communities by focusing on health, water and sanitation, education, the youth and local development.

Mr. Musadaidzwa further noted that last year, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem started working with the national board for small scale industries by training beneficiaries in skills development in the communities.

On her part, the Municipal Director of education, Mrs Anastasia Kuntah advised pupils who refuse to attend classes after registering for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to desist from doing so and called on teachers to put the facilities to good use. Mrs Kuntah said the effort of the mine in putting up the classroom block for the students will be in vain if school children refuse to attend classes.
