Ayariga Must Show Remorse And Simply Apologize To Parliament - Afenyo Markins

Member of Parliament for Efutu, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markins has advised his colleague in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga to humble himself and apologize to the House over his bribery allegations against the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

Hon. Afenyo Markins wants  Ayariga to show remorse in his apology as a sign of respect to the House.

It can be recalled that Mahama Ayariga, following recommendations in the Joe Ghartey Committee report, was asked to apologize to his fellow colleagues in order to purge him from the contempt charges against him.

The report cited him to be in contempt of Parliament.

But during proceedings in Parliament regarding the report, Mr. Ayariga hesitantly rendered the apology which has since not sunk down well with his fellow legislators and the entire nation.

"If you say I should apologize, I apologize," Mr. Ayariga told the Speaker, in an attempt to comply with the directives.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Hon. Afenyo Markins wondered why Mr. Ayariga cannot admit the Joe Ghartey Committee report on the Parliamentary bribery scandal.

He urged the Bawku Central MP not to undermine the report and the opportunity given him by the Speaker of Parliament.

As a sign of respect to Parliament, he believed Ayariga's compliance with the report would help bring finality to the issue.

Hon. Afenyo Markins found it difficult to understand Ayariga's adamant behaviour, stressing that even his own party leadership in Parliament is not on his side.

“Your own party leadership in Parliament disagrees with you. Your own leadership agrees with the report. Your own leadership did not condemn the report. Your colleagues were members of the Committee. So, where do you stand?” he questioned.
