Wontumi Has Vowed To Stop Mining To Save Nana Addo’s Image - Ken Agyapong

Outspoken Assin Central NPP Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong says the Ashanti Regional Chairman of his party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako has vowed to cease doing any small scale mining activities popularly known as galamsey.

According to him he has promised to desist from the activity to save the image of the Nana Addo-led government.

“Chairman Wontumi during one of our trips outside the country told me personally that he will not engage in small scale mining again. I respect him for that,” he said in an interview with UTV’s morning show ‘Adekye Nsoroma’.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ has denied claims by the opposition NDC that he is involved in illegal mining activities.

To him, the NDC deliberately want to tag him as someone who deals in galamsey for political expediency.

A ministerial task force which was formed by the then ruling National Democratic Congress, to clamp down on illegal mining in 2013, raided the HANSOL Mining Limited owned by Wontumi and took away gold bars and destroyed several equipments and other valuable items.

The action was borne out on suspicion that the company had brought in some Chinese nationals to engage in illegal mining activities.

Even though Chairman Wontumi was lawfully engaging in mining activities during that time, Kennedy Agyapong noted that the NPP chairman has promised to end his activities to help fight the situation.
