The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Green Grass Technology, Mr. Frank Boahen has lamented over the poor nature of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium, saying it is unfit for football.
According to the grass expert, the playing pitch has exhausted its life span and needs a major re-grassing and quality care to save football players from injuries.
“The field of play is very bad…it is not good for football, it looks very green from afar but not good for the game. “The pitch needs re-grassing, the best soil, nurturing, before it would be ready for use again…the pitch is over ten years and really needs renovation” he said.
Mr. Boahen further reiterated that the condition of the pitch can cause “ankle injuries from the slightest twist, because the pitch is all weeds”.
It will be recalled that former Black Stars coach Avram Grant criticized the state of the Accra Stadium pitch, claiming it was one of the worst turfs he had seen in his coaching career.
