The busy and congested nature of the Central Business District of Accra has been reduced as most traders have travelled to their hometowns to celebrate the just ended Easter festivities.
A survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tema Station and the Makola Market on Tuesday revealed that business is gradually picking up as most of the Easter revellers are returning to their normal business.
The survey which sought to ascertain the impact of the Easter celebrations on commercial activities indicated that most people have not returned from the Easter celebrations and trips outside Accra.
Most shops had not opened as at 1030 hours with just a few shops and vendors operating. Some shop owners were seen to be arriving late to their shops to commence business.
According to Ewurasi Doudu, a beauty products vendor; she went to Kwahu with some friends to enjoy the Easter but returned on Sunday.
Madam Dede Quaye, a vegetable vendor, also said she travelled to her hometown to spend the Easter with her family but returned early this morning.
“I went to Ada to celebrate the Easter on Friday and returned this morning around 0600 hours. I got here not long ago,” she said as she arranged her vegetables.
Aunty Jane, owner of a provision shop said she did not travel during the Easter that was why she opened her shop. “I have been here since 0700 hours and I haven’t sold anything worth GH¢ 100,” she lamented.
At the Old Tema Station, it was observed that some people who travelled to enjoy the Easter were returning. However, the buses loading to Ho and Hohoe were relatively empty.
