Agbogbloshie: Police Arrest 2 With 500 Rounds Of Ammunition

The Police in Accra have arrested two persons who allegedly had in their possession 500 rounds of ammunition at Old Fadama.

The Police are still investigating the suspects to ascertain whether or not they were involved in the recent violence in  the area which claimed two lives.

Addressing Journalists in Accra yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the Gt. Accra Police Command, ASP Afia Tenge explained that, the two suspects, Imoro Abdul Wahab, 25, a scrap dealer, and Kwaku Amankwa, 58, who claims to be a registered arms dealer, were involved in a transaction which saw the scrap dealer purchase the ammunition valued at GHc 1,000.

Abdul Wahab was arrested first, and subsequently led the police to the second suspect at a place called Arena in Accra.

“The police retrieved 250 rounds of BB cartridges and 250 rounds of AA cartridges summing up to the 500 pieces of cartridges,” ASP Tenge noted.

“Both suspects are being detained for investigations, and shall soon be put before the court when our investigations and the intent has been established.”

Last week a bloody conflict that happened at Old Fadama, a suburb of Accra, between the Kokombas and the Dagombas saw two persons lost their lives, while dozens were caught in the crossfire resulting in a number of casualties.

Some locally manufactured weapons were retrieved from some of the members of the two factions in the wake of the riot, according to the Police.

The MP for the area, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has lamented the huge cache of arms being hoarded in the area.
