Ibrahim Mahama’s Passport Not Seized – Sam George

The brother of former President John Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama is not a "flight risk" and, therefore, is in possession of his passport contrary to assertions that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had seized it, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George has said.

The businessman is being investigated over alleged dud cheques he issued to the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Tema Port to clear some heavy duty equipment he had imported.

Mr Mahama was invited by the EOCO and interrogated on Tuesday 18 April and asked to deposit his passport with the state investigative body on Wednesday April 19.

Speaking to Class News’ Nabil Ahmed Rufai on 12Live on Friday, 21 April, Mr Sam George disclosed that Mr Mahama’s passport had not been seized.

“Ibrahim’s passport has not being seized. He is in possession of his passport. He went to EOCO on Wednesday and EOCO made a copy of the data page of his passport. His passport is still in his possession. Ibrahim is not a flight risk. Someone who owns a cement factory and owns the kind of businesses he owns in this country cannot be deemed to be a flight risk and so we should stop this sensationalism,” he stated.

Mr Mahama was asked to reappear on Friday, 21 April. He honoured that invitation amidst solidarity from his supporters who massed up at the EOCO office.
