Captain Kingsley K. Kumi, Commander of “Operations Ahondwo” at Nkonya/Alavanyo said clearance had been given for the use of the Nkonya/Alavanyo disputed land as a military training camp.
He said the military was therefore establishing a base on the mountain which stretches between the two traditional areas and warned the natives to stay off the area.
Captain Kumi who was addressing an Assembly session of the Biakoye District Assembly said the military would be using the stretch for shooting practice hence, a restricted area.
He said although security situation in Alavanyo and Nkonya was calm, it was still highly unpredictable and said a joint patrol team of the Police and Military was working to ensure no ‘combatant’ breached the peace.
Mrs Christine Nutakor, Presiding Member of the Assembly urged the Assembly Members to preach peaceful co-existence in their communities.
She said the conflict was affecting farming and economic activities in the area and expressed the hope that the military intervention would restore peace to the traditional areas.
