Minister Explains “Planting for Food and jobs” Policy
Mr Sulemana Alhassan, Upper West Regional Minister has begun touring paramountcies to introduce himself to traditional rulers and heads of government departments and agencies and also solicit their support and counselling to effectively administer the affairs of the region.
The tour took him to Lambussie, Nandom and Lawra Paramountcies where he interacted with Bussie Kuoro, Kuoro Salifu Dy-yakah, Nandom-Naa, Naa Dr Puoure Poube Chiir and the Lawra Naa, Naa Puowele Karbo and explained government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” policy to them and some government workers.
Kuoro Dy-yakah pleaded with government to upgrade the Lambussie Polyclinic to a district hospital and also endeavour to tar the town roads to give it a befitting facelift as a district capital.
He appealed to government to provide equipment and ambulance for the polyclinic to enable it to provide quality healthcare services to the people.
Kuoro Dy-yakah urged the security agencies in the region to work harder to reduce the crime wave in the communities especially in the Wa Municipality.
Mr Alhassan appealed for peace in the wake of government’s nomination of District Chief Executives for the various District Assemblies.
He pleaded with Assembly members to confirm the nominees’ for the rapid implementation of development programmes and projects in the region.
He urged workers to work hard to improve the living conditions of the people in the communities while their overall contributions should also be geared positively towards national development.
He said workers must take advantage of the “Planting for Food and Jobs” project to increase food production and also supplement their incomes.
At Nandom, the Nandom Naa, Naa Dr, Puoure Poube Chiir, Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Area, thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for tarring Nandom town roads.
He also expressed happiness that work on the tarring of the Lawra-Nandom-Hamile main road was progressing steadily.
He appealed to the contractors to expedite action to ensure the early completion of the project to facilitate business transaction between Ghana and neighbouring Burkina Faso.
Mr Sulemana Alhassan said government could not do everything without the support of traditional rulers and the people.
He assured the Nandom-Naa that government was committed to working to address some of the development challenges of the region and that Nandom would not be left out.
