Work Output At Public Sector Going Down - Deputy Minister For Regional Re-organization Cries

Deputy Minister for Regional Re-organization, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah has described as scary the behaviour of public sector workers during working hours.

According to him, his assessment of the public sector workers between the hours of 10 to 11 am has shown that this prime time is used to interact with friends and loved ones on the various social media platforms.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the Director of Elections for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) bemoaned the lackadaisical way some workers at the public sector are carrying out their duties for which they are being paid monthly.

“The work we are supposed to do for our salaries, we are doing it anyhow. Whatever President Akufo-Addo said was true. For example, common documentation which can take few hours can last for months before they are attended to; those who cannot wait for those months are forced to pay bribes to get their papers worked on,” he asserted.

He stressed that it is frustrating to see how the public sector workers subject their clients to undeserving treatment; thus their behaviour depict as though they are doing the nation a favour with the service they render.

“It looks as if those working at the public sector are doing the nation a favour. This government is doing everything possible to correct the behaviour of public sector workers and Ghanaians in general towards work,” he said.

He lamented that “the work output at the public sector is going down and this incurs debt for the government and eventually retards the progress of the country; it slows down the intent of well meaning Ghanaians in the country.”

“We want to change this behaviour as the President said; thus, as there is change of government, there must be a change in attitude towards work so that the nation can develop. We cannot entertain the behaviour of Directors who are supposed to carry out their duties at once but wait for them to pile up on their desk in order to induce clients to pay money,” he averred.
