Court Remands Farmer For Stealing

Joseph Nyabiase, a farmer, has been remanded in custody by a Hohoe Circuit Court for stealing, possession of firearms without authority, causing harm and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and is to be brought before the court again on November 24, this year. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ben Dadzie told the court presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa that on October 21, this year, one Boniface Atsu, went to his farm at Likpe-Koforidua and saw Nyabiase plucking his cocoa. He said Nyabiase on seeing Mr Atsu absconded, leaving behind a half bag of wet cocoa worth GHC 50.00, and a single barrel gun. Mr Dadzie said Mr Atsu with the items lodged a complaint at the Gbi-Bla police station. He said on October 23, this year Nyabiase went to the house of one Fuseini who was with Mr Atsu on the farm to demand his gun, but when he was told it had been deposited with the police he got angry, and slashed Fuseini on the left arm with a knife and escaped. Mr Dadzie said the incident was again reported to the police who went to Likpe-Koforidua to arrest Nyabiase, but Nyabiase fiercely resisted arrest but was overpowered.
