Africa U-17 Tourney: Ghana 5 - 0 Gabon: Starlets Thrash Host To Qualify For Semis

Ghana advanced to the semi-finals of the Africa U17 Championship with a 5-0 victory over Gabon on Thursday evening.

The Black Starlets showed their superiority over their counterparts with a well-deserved victory.

Gabon who had showed great promise in the early stages of the game succumbed to a defeat after the African giants warmed themselves in the game.

Captain Eric Ayiah set the breakthrough for the two-time Champions will a well-taken penalty kick.

Ayiah took the mantle upon himself after he was brought down by Gabonese defender Franck Aubert Nze Nsome Amvame.

Winger Emmanuel Toku capitalized on a poor defensive clearance from Nsome Amvame to calmly slot pass Gabon goalkeeper Brunel Ilagou Ilagou.

Ghana started the second half from where they left off as they controlled the game right from recess.

Eric Ayiah scored his second goal and fourth of the tournament after taking advantage of a miscommunication between Gabon goalkeeper Ilagou and his defender Aziz Giroly Bourobou Mombo to nick the ball into the net.

Emmanuel Toku got Ghana’s fourth on the day after a brilliant run from right-back Najeeb Yakubu who laid a nice ball to his teammate to strike from the edge of the six yard box after an excellent nutmeg on a Gabonese defender.

Substitute Patmos Ahin who came on to replace two-goal hero Eric Ayiah got his name on the score sheet with Ghana’s fifth as another awful defending on the part of the Gabonese saw the Mandela Soccer Academy striker putting the ball into a yawning net.

The result makes Ghana the first country to confirm a place at the semi-finals of the competition as well as the FIFA U17 World Cup which takes place in India later in the year.
