General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has asked the Police Service to, as a matter of urgency, re-arrest the Delta Force members who have been discharged by the Attorney General.

The suspects were standing trial at a Kumasi Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and assault on public officer among other charges.

Reports indicated that the Attorney General had discontinued the case against the eight members of the vigilante group, Delta Force, who were said to have aided the escape of the 13 of their members.

The Prosecution filed a nolle prosequi which led to the judge discharging the suspects.

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Atik Mohammed registered his utter displeasure with the release of the suspects, stating emphatically that he believes there was a conspiracy to free them.

According to him, the reason given by the Attorney General that the suspects were discharged for lack of evidence is unconvincing.

“I’m beginning to suspect some conspiracy because it is abnormal. It’s not how the Police usually…It is just a deliberate attempt to weaken this case so that they can free these individuals".

He suggested that if indeed the State wanted to prosecute the suspects, there should have been an identification parade by the Police Service for people to identify the suspects who perpetrated the violent action on the court and its presiding Judge.

Because, to him, the suspects didn't act in secrecy but in the full glare of the public and media present at the court; hence the identification parade would have been much helpful.

Nonetheless, he held strongly that the AG cannot say there's lack of evidence in the case because they would find one if they delve deeper into the case.

Atik Mohammed further took a swipe at the Nana Addo administration, saying he thought the Mahama administration was worse and so a change of government was necessary but it appears the current administration is compacting "what happened in 8 years in 4 months".

He called on the government not to allow the suspects to go scot free because their actions may leave a blot on Ghana's history.

"We can’t allow this blot on our history. We must get this thing out of our history books. It can’t be recorded in our history,” he added.
