Dompoase "galamsey" victims identified

The Western Regional Police has identified 15 of the galamsey operators, who lost their lives following a landslide at Dompoase near Wassa Akropong. Superintendent Victor Agbetornyo, Western Regional Crime Officer, who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday, gave their names as Ato Annin, 42 and owner of the pit, Michael Owusu Ansah, 27, Akua Nkrumah, 41, Abena Besiwa, 32, Ama Foriwaa, 31, Vida Gyetua, 32, Ama Owusuaa, 50, and Fabibla Seidu, 18. The rest were Mariama Adams, 27, Akos Munduge, 20, Mantura Godia, 18, Tieleh Mobanaah, 20, Mpekeh Pepeuroo, 21, Memuna Dognaneh, 18 and Boloh Nsorkeleh, 18. Superintendent Agbetomyo said Gloria Bedzebi, 23, the only survivor and eight of the victims hail from the north. He said post-mortem had been performed on the bodies and some of them have been collected by relatives and buried while the rest are being kept at Wassa Akropong mortuary pending collection by relatives. Superintendent Agbetomyo said the area where the incident occurred has been declared unsafe because it is on a hilly and swampy area.
