Tema Journalists Boycott TMA

MEMBERS OF the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) in Tema, Greater Accra Region, have boycotted coverage of activities of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

The decision followed attacks on some members and allegation against the leadership of the Tema GJA that it had been compromised to do the bidding of the new Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

According to a statement signed by Dominic Hlordzi, the Chairman of the Tema Chapter of the GJA, “The Tema GJA has written to the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive to alert him of the unfortunate attack on some of our members on the 12th of this Month at his confirmation event and the vile unsubstantiated allegation by two assembly members.”

The association has therefore registered its displeasure over the two incidents and demanded remedies, apologies and reparation for any psychological and physical pain suffered by the members.

“While we wait for response or actions from the MCE and the assembly in general, we have decided to stay away from the activities, programmes and issues relating to the TMA for three months,” according to the association.

Members of the association have therefore been advised to boycott coverage of the assembly’s activities until measures have been put in place to remedy the situation.
