More District Hospitals Soon

The Ministry of Health has secured funding to construct more district hospitals,, Dr Benjamin Kunbour, Minister of Health-designate, made this known in Parliament yesterday. He said designs for the project were almost complete and construction would soon begin. Dr Kunbour who was responding to questions in Parliament, assured the Member for Ahafo-Ano South, Richard Akuako Adiyia, that Tepa and other areas which did not have district hospitals would be provided with one. The Minister designate said, there were 62 districts without hospitals and in view of the large number of hospitals and in view of the large number of hospitals needed and the associated cost, the ministry would provide them in phases. Dr Kunbour said details for funding the facilities would be presented to Parliament in due course. �We anticipate the support and cooperation of honourable members when the opportune time comes�. He said the rehabilitation of Dormaa Akwamu Health Centre and many others in the country had been prioritized in the capital projects development plan for 2009 � 2-12. As to why the National Helath Insurance Scheme at Techiman had increased the annual premium from GH�14 TO GH�18, Dr Kunbuor said the scheme authorities had gone though appropriate processes for fixing its premium. Earlier, the Speaker, Mrs. Joyce Adeline Bamford-Addo, expressed her appreciation to the house for wishing her well following the involvement of her car in an accident on Tuesday.
