Armyworm Infection: No Drop In Maize Production

Maize production will not reduce even though there is the invasion of fall army worms on various farms in the country according to Ebenezer Aboagye, Acting Director of Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Fall armyworms is said to have affected 18,219.07 hectares of maize farms in nine regions in the country.

The pests were detected, last year, and had since rapidly spread, wreaking havoc on crops.

The fear is that this infection will lead to maize shortage in the country. However, Mr Aboagye has allayed those fears.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ Monday, Mr Aboagye said the country will not experience shortfall in maize production since the government’s ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ programme is expected to increase production.

He has urged farmers to spray their farms with the right insecticide on time.
