Family of the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama has appealed to the state to erect a monument in any part of the country to serve as a reminder to the country of the death of its son. The family wants the monument to be a forestallment of lynching as a means of exacting justice.

The family made this demand on Friday, June 2, when Speaker of Parliament Professor MikeAaron Oquaye and leadership of the House paid relatives of the fallen soldier a visit to commiserate with them. The Speaker assured the family that Parliament will support the erection of a monument in honour of the late army captain.

Captain Mahama was gruesomely murdered by a mob at Denkyira-Obuasi on Monday, May 29 after he was mistaken for an armed robber, as suggested by initial reports. His lifeless body was slightly set ablaze by residents much to the chagrin of the entire Ghanaian populace.

There have been calls for government to crash the growing lawlessness in the country with some laying the blame at the doorstep of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. But the family will have none of politics with the issue. The family has consequently advised all to desist from politicizing the death of their late son, who was commander of a military detachment to Denkyira-Obuasi.
