Eight Physically Challenged Students Partake In BECE

Eight students from Mephibosheth Training Centre, an institution for physically and mentally challenged, are sitting for the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Ankamu B/A Primary School at Apam, in the Central Region.

The candidates, five males and three females, would join more than 400,000 others across the country on Monday to write the English and Religious and Moral Education papers in an examination that would guarantee them a place in Senior High Schools.

They are; Ebenezer Addae, Ebenezer Egyir, Theophilus Gyasi, Bright Mensah, Samuel Mensah, Gifty Nyantse, Zinabu Sanka and Elizabeth Quansah.

Ms Hannah Jehu-Appiah, a caretaker at the Centre, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the students were the first batch of the school to undertake the exams and expressed optimism that the students would come out with flying colours.

She said the school, established eleven years ago offered therapy and mobility devices for persons with disability and assisted children with autism.

She said the centre trained children from Kindergarten to Junior High School and currently had a population of 85 students both male and female.

Ms Jehu-Appiah admonished candidates to conduct themselves according to the laid down rules and wished them success during the exams period.

Students with special needs are given additional time during the examination period.

The BECE commenced on Monday June 5 and would end on Friday June 9.
