NPP Opens Door For Amendment Of Party’s Constitution

The New Patriotic Party would be considering, among others, proposals for the amendment of provisions in the party’s constitutions as well as deliberate on matters affecting the organisation of the party in the regions during its upcoming Regional Annual Delegates Conference.

Persons willing to propose amendments to the Party’s Constitution have up to 26 of June to submit such proposal to the General Secretary of the party for consideration.

Barely six months after snatching an overwhelming victory at the national elections to take over the reins of government, the New Patriotic Party will from 25th to 27th of August go to congress to elect new executives who would steer the affairs of the party into the future.

Currently, majority of the party’s executives hold ministerial or other top position in government.

A decision arrived at during a meeting of the party’s National Council meeting on May 10, 2017, directed all party office holders (elected or appointed) who have second executive positions in government to vacate their party positions for substantive officers appointed to fill in.

In pursuant of this, the party has directed all Regional Executive Committees to organised their respective Regional Annual Delegates Conferences not later than July 25, in accordance with provisions of the party’s constitution.

Article 7(13) of the party’s constitution states that “in every year, at least four (4) weeks prior to National Annual Delegates Conference, there shall be a Regional Delegates Conference…”

The party has again directed that the various Constituency Executive Committee should furnish the National Secretariat with details of their respective Annual Conference through their respective regions not later than Monday, June 12.

Acting General Secretary of the Party, John Boadu, giving details of the upcoming event, stated emphatically that the Annual Conference would not include the election of party executives to positions currently occupied by serving officers.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the party wishes to state emphatically that, these Annual Delegates’ Conferences would NOT include the election of party executives to occupy the various positions at the Constituency, Regional and National levels because the mandate of the serving officers of the party is yet to expire,” he emphasized.
