A 38-year-old palm wine tapper has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Koforidua circuit court, for defiling his step daughter.

Kofi Agbavor was said to have defiled the young girl several times and had warned her not to tell anyone of his ordeal, adding that he would kill her if she did.

He pleaded guilty to defilement and was convicted on his own plea and slapped with the sentence by the presiding judge, Janet Anima Marfo.

He added that the accused for three months constantly had sexual intercourse with the victim whilst all of them slept in the same room.

Chief Inspector Bronya, further told the court that the accused, who normally slept with the victim’s mother on the same bed would quietly sneak from the bed and come to have sexual intercourse with the victim who slept on the floor.

The prosecution said after his nefarious acts, convict would always warn the victim not to tell anyone and threatened to kill her if she did.

Chief Inspector Bronya explained that the victim’s twin sister who had been seeing what was going on, confided in her uncle who reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), of the Police in the Eastern Region.

A police medical report form was issued to the victim to attend hospital and after medical examination, it was confirmed her hymen was broken.
