Word Miracle Church Bishop Arrested By Police?

The General Secretary of the Word Miracle Church International (WMCI), Bishop Hansel Agyei Frimpong, is in the grips of the police. The police had invited the leadership of the church for questioning to ascertain the truth in the allegation that the church had organised some landguards, to carry out an exercise in the area which is mostly occupied by people suspected to be squatters. A high-powered delegation from the church, led by its General Secretary, Bishop Hansel Agyei Frimpong, who is also the Presiding Bishop of the Circle Branch of the WMCI, yesterday went to the Greater Accra Police Command to answer questions concerning the incident. He was, however, detained whiles the other members of the delegation were asked to go home. As at 2pm today, Tuesday (Nov 17th), Bishop Agyei Frimpong was still in police custody, more than 24 hours had elapsed since he honoured the police invitation to answer questions pertaining to the Avenor incident. The legal counsel of the church, Lawyer Agyei Lartey confirmed the latest happenings in an exclusive interview on PEACEFM, a short while ago. According to him, eventhough the Bishop had complied with the police by writing a statement on the incident, they (police) are reluctant to let him go. They have not as yet charged him for any crime and have even refused our request for bail, lawyer Lartey said. But the WMCI legal counsel disclosed that his own investigations have uncovered plans by the police to "process his client for court by charging him with abetment of crime, for hiring a group of people to riot with offensive weapons. Two persons lost their lives tragically following the indiscriminate firing of firearms by both sides. One of the alleged landguards, who died in the process, had his left limb chopped off at the elbow. The identity of the other dead person is yet to be confirmed as some eyewitnesses claimed that he was a passerby, while others say he was a resident. He was said to have died at the hospital. The church and the supposed squatters have given different accounts of what led to the shooting incident. While the squatters accuse the church of sending armed landguards to the place to attack them, the church also claims it was the residents who started shooting at their workers who had gone to the site to work, and that they had not engaged the services of any landguards.
