Editorial: Stop the Land Guards Now!

The operation of land guards in the country is on the ascendency once again as lives are being lost through their activities. Last Monday, two people lost their lives at Avenor in Accra. Residents of South Manhea are crying over the activities of land guards. East Legon residents are not having things easy and, in Kumasi, there are lots of complaints about the activities of land guards. The police had to set up a special unit to deal with the operation of these miscreants but it looks like things are falling apart. The kind of weapons that these land guards possess should be a source of worry to all decent minded Ghanaians. There have been concerns as to what they use the weapons for when there is no operation for them to undertake. It is time for the police to step up the fight against these misfits because they are causing damage to law abiding Ghanaians. The fight should be taken further to people who deal in lands because they are the very people sponsoring the land guards. Some people have lost huge sums of monies because they cannot simply develop lands that were acquired through their sweat, all in the name of land guards. The police should go all out and deal with the land guards before they get out of hand and do worse things.
