The Pan-African Parliament has selected Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Minority Leader of Ghana's Parliament, to lead its 36-member delegation to observe the Namibian Presidential and Parliamentary elections slated for November 27 and 29 2009. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency before his departure from the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Mr Dery said five Parliamentarians were selected from each of the five regions of the Continent, adding that the remaining members of the delegation were officials. He said the delegation, which would be in Namibia from November 20 to December 2, would among other things hold an orientation course for its members; form eight separate committees for monitoring and hold a press conference and issue a statement on December 2, before departure. Mr Dery, who is also the Member of Parliament for Lawra/Nandom, said he was humbled by his selection to lead the delegation and attributed it to the confidence the Continent has reposed in the democratic credentials of Ghana over the years. He said the Ghanaian Parliament had set certain enviable precedents on the Continent and he would work hard to live up to the expectations of Ghanaians and the Pan-African Parliament. He gave the assurance that the delegation would do everything under its power to report accurately on whatever it would observe.
