2 before court for an alleged fraud

Two people on Friday appeared before a Mampong-Ashanti High Court for allegedly defrauding 37 people in the sum of GH42,941 under the pretext of securing them admission into the Mampong-Ashanti Midwifery Training School. The pleas of Alexander Oduro Acheampong 29, Secretary and Computer Administrator of the School and Theresa Boahemaa, 27 were not taken. The court presided over by Mr Justice Jacob Boon remanded Acheampong in prison custody to re-appear on December 3, 2009 while Theresa was granted GH20,000 bail with two sureties to be justified and in addition surrender her passport and report to the police every Tuesday. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdulai Iddrissu, prosecuting told the court that the accused persons were arrested on October 27, this year after the police had been informed of their inability to fulfil their promise and refund the monies to the people. He said the police were still investigating the case because more people were reporting of allegedly being defrauded by the accused persons.
