Dr Kofi Asare, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, has decried the falling standards of education in the Kwaebibirem District with a call on stakeholders to ensure that standards were improved.
He said the district assembly, chiefs, educational authorities, teachers and other stakeholders must work together to improve the situation.
Addressing members of the District Assembly at Kade, Dr. Asare noted that only one boy from the public schools secured aggregate six in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district in 2007.
He said the results for 2008 showed that 59 other pupils from private schools had aggregate six.
That, he said, was not good enough and the situation should be changed for the better.
Dr Asare urged the assembly to enact a bye-law to ban the opening of video game centres before 1800 hours on each day.
He explained that it would prevent school children from patronizing those centres at the expense of their education.
The MP said education was close to his heart and advised parents to send all their children to school.
He urged parents to ensure that their children remained in school, follow their progress at school and provide their basic needs.
