The Founder and General Overseer of the Glorious Word Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah has appealed to President Akufo-Addo not to accept the resignation letter of the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr William Quaitoo.

According to him, since the minister has apologised for his “unsavory” utterance, which has attracted a lot of anger from Ghanaians, particularly those from the northern part of the country, he ought to be forgiven.

He explained that the minister is not known for such behaviours, adding that it is unfair to use the circumstance to impress upon the minister to resign. Rev. Owusu-Bempah made the remarks on Accra-based Okay FM on Wednesday.

“I feel hurt about his resignation”, he said, adding “I was troubled when I heard this morning that he has resigned”.

According to him, the minister must be allowed to continue his work.

Rev Owusu-Bempah said although he shared the views with other Ghanaians that the minister did not speak well, once he has apologised for his actions, he needs to be forgiven by all Ghanaians and must be allowed to serve in his capacity.

Mr Quaitoo on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 resigned from his post, following accusations that he made ethnocentric comments against people from the north.

His decision to tender his resignation was confirmed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin Tuesday evening.

"The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this evening accepted the resignation from office of the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. William Quaitoo, MP, which takes immediate effect."

Mr Quaitoo made the comments in a radio interview with Accra-based Starr FM when he was discussing the impact of fall army worms on farms in the Northern Region.
