Free SHS Should Be Seen As A Major Poverty Reduction Mechanism - Atik

Atik Mohammed has commended the Akufo-Addo government for implementing the free SHS policy.

The policy which will see every Ghanaian student enjoy free education at the Senior High School has also been touted by several politicians and socio-economic experts as a project that will inure to the benefit of the nation.

The NDC Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs described the policy as the "best thing" to happen for Ghanaians.

Making his submissions on the Thursday edition of Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Atik Mohammed thanked the government for not reneging on their promise to the citizenry.

He was of a strong view that the free SHS programme which began in September this year will help bridge the gap between the privileged and deprived individuals of school-going age.

He however advised the government not to only implement the policy but ensure that they provide quality education as well.

“My prayer is that this government should be able to implement this project well . . . This should also be seen as a major poverty reduction mechanism. Investment in a free SHS should be yet another poverty reduction strategy," he stated.
