Rafael Benitez's Job At Liverpool 'Under No Threat?

Liverpool chief executive Christian Purslow has backed the under-fire Rafael Benitez, claiming that the manager's job "is under no threat". Many critics have called on the club to give the Spaniard the pivotal push through the exit door, but the CEO remains assured that the Reds have the right man for the job. This comes in light of the Merseyside club's elimination from the Champions League despite a 1-0 win against Hungarian side Debrecen on Tuesday night. "You can never predict last-minute goals [in previous encounters], which have cost us dear in the Champions League," said Purslow, according to the Press Association. "That's no basis to make managerial decisions."We don't run our business in that respect. I'm on the record as saying Rafa's signed a new five-year contract, he's four months into that contract so to discuss that is not appropriate. "He is under no threat." Liverpool are heavily in debt, and the Champions League exit comes as a difficult pill to swallow in terms of the revenue the club would have garnered from reaching the last 16. However, Purslow maintains that the effects of the exit can be neutralised through a good string of results in the Europa League. "It's [the financial damage is] limited actually," he said."Assuming we have a reasonable run in the Europa League then we are financially neutral for this year."
