Former Deputy Minister of Education during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has been cautioned to stop passing cynical comments about the free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
A top contender for the National Youth Organizer position in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately called ‘Nana B’ in political circles, said he was extremely angry over Okudzeto’s recent comments, which painted a gloomy picture about the free SHS programme.
According to him, the free SHS policy, introduced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration, is meant to benefit the masses therefore the pessimistic statements about the policy by NDC members, especially Okudzeto must stop.
“Any fight against the free SHS programme by the NDC is a fight against all Ghanaians who are the direct beneficiaries of the laudable programme so NDC should beware and turn a new leaf with immediate effect”, Nana B charged on radio.
He added “The NDC members, especially Okudzeto, have started a campaign to find all means to villify the positive policy and this is not the best. Being in opposition doesn’t mean you should oppose every policy that the sitting government introduced.
“A programme like the free SHS is a laudable policy and it has come to stay for Ghanaians, irrespective of one’s social, ethnic, religious or political background, so the likes of Okudzeto should stop trying to find fault with the policy because it won’t work”.
Nana B, who is very outspoken, said the free SHS proramme is new in the country therefore it is normal if the policy encounters some problems in the initial stages.
He said a competent Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, is more than capable to deal with any problem that the free SHS policy may encounter so Ghanaians should stay calm.
“I am expecting the NDC MPs led by Okudzeto to be sincere and organize a press conference to praise President Nana Akufo-Addo for starting the free SHS policy, which will save them (MPs) from the payment of school of fees for their constituents”, he concluded.
